In December, Mitsubishi Fuso announced the first delivery of its new electric truck, the eCanter to customers in Berlin, Germany. The world’s first purely electric-powered light-duty truck, the eCanter will be added to the fleets of DHL, DB Schenker, Rhenus and Dachser. These companies’ integration of the eCanter advances their emphasis in sustainable fleet management, as applied specifically to urban delivery transport.

In October, Fuso launched the E-FUSO brand, signaling its commitment to alternative drivetrains, and in the near future all truck and bus models will come with an electric variant. The German customers receiving the eCanter all operate in the logistics business, an ideal application for the quiet and zero-emission eCanter, but the decision to employ the eCanter was based also on fleet-sustainability and economic considerations. The vehicles were obtained by the customers via a 24-month rental through CarterWay, Daimler’s own leasing branch for commercial vehicles.

“With the FUSO eCanter we are delivering the first all-electric series-produced truck to our customers in Europe today. Over 90,000 kilometers of testing in everyday operating conditions ensures that we hand over a reliable and economical vehicle to our customers. With the FUSO eCanter our customers now operate not only quietly and without locally emitted CO2, they also save money on operating costs. This is the future of urban distribution systems.” -Marc Llistosella, Head of Daimler
